Worcester police: Father brought handgun to Doherty High School

WORCESTER — Police arrested a parent who allegedly brought a handgun into Doherty Memorial High School soon after school was dismissed Wednesday.

Officials said the man's daughter was "having issues" with another student.

Jerome Weekes, 41, of Canton, was arrested Friday evening after investigators interviewed witnesses and studied surveillance videos.

There was no confrontation at the school.

Worcester police gave the following account:

Officers learned that Weekes was seen with a handgun inside his vehicle when it was parked outside the school. Weekes entered the building with his daughter after school was dismissed. He had an object in the front pocket of his sweatshirt that appeared to be a handgun. The pair walked to a specific classroom and looked around. They then proceeded to search hallways and corridors. After a short period of time, both exited the building without incident.

After piecing together evidence, police obtained an arrest warrant for Weekes. Officers from the Canton Police Department located Weekes and made the arrest.

He is charged with carrying a firearm on a campus.
