Worker injured, customers in dark after Newton power incident

An electrical incident in Newton, Massachusetts, Monday has injured a worker and left traffic lights, homes in the dark. The incident happened at a substation on Homer Street, right across from Newton City Hall. “An Eversource employee is being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries,” Eversource said in a statement. Witnesses in the neighborhood said there was an electrical incident inside a building, and several people who live in the area said their power went out. The power outage map for Eversource shows there are outages in the area of Newton City Hall, and the estimated restoration time is 2:30 p.m. “Just before 11 a.m., an equipment issue at one of our substations in Newton caused a small fire on our property and a power outage affecting approximately 2,500 customers in the area,” Eversource said in a statement. The utility company said power has already been restored to about 600 customers.
