World Central Kitchen Resumes Gaza Operations, Weeks After Deadly Strike on Staff

The charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) said on April 28 it was resuming operations in Gaza, less than a month after seven people working for it were killed in an Israeli attack.

“We continue to grieve and mourn the loss of seven of our friends and colleagues who were killed in an IDF attack in Gaza on April 1,” the charity said. “We have spent the past few weeks honoring the lives of Saif, Zomi, Damian, Jacob, James, John, and Jim.”

WCK said it was forced to make a decision: either “stop feeding altogether during one of the worst hunger crises ever, ending our operation that accounted for 62% of all International NGO aid, or keep feeding knowing that aid, aid workers, and civilians are being intimidated and killed.”

“We decided that we must keep feeding, continuing our mission of showing up to provide food to people during the toughest of times,” it said.

The head of the Israel Defense Forces apologized for the killings, calling the attack a “grave mistake”.

WCK said that, despite the apology, they had “no concrete assurances” and called for “an impartial and international investigation.”
