World Cup watch party highlights 5 things to do this weekend in Sioux Falls

For the first time since 2014, the United States Men's National Team will participate in the knockout round of the World Cup. There'll be a watch party at the Gateway Casino and Lounge on Saturday, which highlights the weekend calendar.

And that's not all.

There are other sporting opportunities including Gonzaga vs. Baylor men's college basketball, along with Christmas festivities including Santa photo opportunities and Disney On Ice.

Here's a look at five things to do this weekend in Sioux Falls.

Fans of the U.S. Men's National Team will pack inside the Gateway Casino and Lounge on Saturday, as the Americans take on the Netherlands in the knockout stage of the World Cup.

The Gateway has become the home for the Sioux Falls American Outlaws chapter, which hosted all three of the United States of America's group stage games. In the group stage, the Americans drew twice with England and Wales but picked up a 1-0 victory over Iran in the third and final match securing their spot.

Now, they'll turn their focus to the Netherlands. In the last meeting between the two countries, in 2015, it was the Americans who were victorious taking a 4-3 win over the Netherlands.

Doors open at 8 a.m., and the match is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Gateway Casino and Lounge is located at 3408 S. Gateway Blvd. Biscuits and gravy and breakfast pizza will be served. Blarney Stone will also host the game starting at 9 a.m., offering a complimentary bloody mary, mimosa or screwdriver with the purchase of a breakfast entrée.

Gonzaga vs. Baylor

It'll be a top-15 men's college basketball showdown Friday inside the Sanford Pentagon, as the No. 6 Baylor Bears take on the No. 14 Gonzaga Bulldogs.

It's a rematch of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's National Championship, where Baylor picked up an 86-70 win over Gonzaga. It'll be the seventh meeting between the two schools.

Baylor will be coming off a 26-point loss to Marquette, while Gonzaga last scored a four-point victory over Xavier.

The Sanford Pentagon has hosted 38 D-I men's college basketball games and 16 women's games.

Tickets for the game range from $78 to $400. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., inside the Sanford Pentagon.

Art Collective

A large number of local artists from the Sioux Falls area will gather inside the Washington Pavilion Visual Art Center this weekend as part of the Art Collective.

The free-to-attend event will include a full bar, raffles and prints. All ages are welcome. The event will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the Art Collective will be open from 3 to 10 p.m.

Disney On Ice: Find Your Hero

This weekend, Disney on Ice will take over the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, as the family-friendly event swings into Sioux Falls.

At the event, all guests older than 2 are required to have a ticket. There are no costumes allowed for guests older than 14. Disney on Ice will have six showings in Sioux Falls, starting on Thursday night. A full schedule of showings can be found on the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center's website.

Santa and Mimosas

Looking for a good time for both parents and kids? Oakridge Nursery and Landscaping might have what you're want. This weekend, the site will host a Santa and Mimosas event Saturday.

There will be cookies, a hot cocoa bar, mimosas, a coloring contest, giveaways and prizes and photo opportunities. The event will be held from 9 am. to noon. Oakridge Nursey and Landscaping is located at 2217 S. Splitrock Blvd., in Brandon.
