World gets first look at Lexus TX, the first Lexus to be built at Toyota's Indiana plant

The world got its initial look at Toyota's first Lexus model to be made in Indiana.

The Lexus TX, a three-row luxury SUV, will be made at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana and according to the company is "made specifically for the North American market."

The announcement comes about four months after Toyota unveiled the Grand Highlander, also in production at the Gibson County plant, at the Chicago Auto Show. The Lexus TX will be built on the Grand Highlander chassis. The new model replaces the recently discontinued RX-L, and was unveiled the same day as another new model, the Lexus GX.

The Lexus TX joins other vehicles made by the more than 7,000 workers at the Indiana facility, which also produces the Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Grand Highlander and Sienna. The plant assembles more than 400,000 vehicles annually.

TMMI originally announced that it would make Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models in April 2021. The additions signified an $803 million investment in the 27-year-old plant, tacking on 1,400 new jobs.

How much will the Lexus TX cost?

The price of the Lexus TX still hasn't been announced. But in a post on the Kelley Blue Book website, an automotive journalist gave this estimate:

"It’s far too early to have final pricing for the 2024 Lexus TX. The MSRP for the 3-row 2022 Lexus RX 350 L (the last year it was offered) was $49,825. Using that as a guideline, we could see the new 2024 Lexus TX 350 starting at perhaps $55,000. The TX 500h and TX 500h+ might come in at around $60,000 and $65,000, respectively."
