‘Out of this world’: Jack Britt football’s Sincere Baines sensational in last-minute loss to Scotland

The No. 1 football player at the Boneyard on Friday night was wearing a No. 1 jersey for Jack Britt.

Even after the Buccaneers’ heartbreaking 28-27 loss to Scotland, both head coaches and the Scots quarterback raved about senior running back Sincere Baines.

“When it boils down to it, when you have a kid like Sincere Baines play the way he played – out of this world – it's probably one of the best games I’ve seen one individual play with my own eyes,” Jack Britt coach Brian Randolph said.

Baines finished with 245 rushing yards and four touchdowns – two in each half – on 24 carries for the Buccaneers (1-2), who led at the midway point of the fourth quarter before the Scots (2-2) rallied for a comeback victory.

“What can you say about Sincere Baines? He’s an unbelievable talent,” Scotland coach Richard Bailey said.

Even Scotland quarterback Carter Revelle, who tied the game on a 2-yard touchdown run with 46 seconds left before Cameron Cole’s go-ahead extra point, was blown away by Baines’ ability.

“You think you’re doing good and then, bam, it’s a 50-yard run or 60-yard run,” Revelle said of Baines. “It was hectic.”

Baines had touchdown runs of 42, 20, 22 and 4 yards. His 4-yard touchdown run gave Jack Britt a six-point lead with 5:46 left, but the ensuing extra-point attempt was blocked by the Scots.

Both teams were plagued by penalties and missed opportunities throughout the night. Scotland had two fumbles at the goal line that resulted in touchbacks and Jack Britt had a touchdown and long kickoff return negated by penalties.

“I have no words for the players. They did not deserve to lose that game … at all. I’m not gonna blame anybody. We had to fix some penalties and stuff like that,” Randolph said.

Following an 11th straight loss to Scotland, Jack Britt will look to bounce back against Douglas Byrd next week to start play in the United 8 Conference.

“Not finishing it, it’s not a great feeling. … Whoever’s next better be ready, because they’re gonna face a really, really, really frustrated team,” Randolph said.

“That frustration has to go out on somebody. We’re gonna go back, fix some things we have to fix. Again, no blame goes to anybody. It’s on Coach Randolph. We have to be more disciplined in certain aspects of the game. It is what it is.”
