World leaders look ahead to Biden presidency
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her country and the United States "should keep working" on "the friendship of our two countries" which she said "has stood the test for decades".
She added: "We are allies in NATO, we share basic values like the dignity of the individual, democracy and the rule of law and we share values."
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in, meanwhile, said: "Our government will absolutely respect and support the choice of the American people as our best national ally."
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he would welcome President-elect Joe Biden restoring the United States to the Paris climate accord.
Speaking in Canberra on Monday (November 9), he said: "We would be welcoming the United States back into the Paris Agreement, somewhere we've always been. We are committed both to Paris, we committed prior to that to Kyoto."
He continued: "So we welcome them coming back in but not only there, I understand that will also extend to organisations like the WHO (the World Health Organisation) as well."
