World No. 10, reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau commits to 2021 Travelers Championship

Bryson DeChambeau, the 10th-ranked golfer in the world, has committed to play at the 2021 Travelers Championship, the tournament announced Tuesday.

“Bryson has captivated the golf world by his distance off the tee and his dedication to implementing analytics and science into his golf game,” Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube said in a statement. “He consistently has been part of our field, which we always appreciate, and his results show that he’s getting quite comfortable playing our golf course.”

DeChambeau, 27, was the longest hitter on the PGA Tour in 2020, and won two tournaments — the U.S. Open and the Rocket City Mortgage Classic. He finished the 2020 tour season with nine top 10 finishes.

He’s posted three straight top 10 finishes at TPC River Highlands. He finished tied for sixth at the 2020 Travelers Championship with a score of 15-under par, tied for eighth the year prior and tied for ninth in 2018. He’s made five starts in Cromwell total.

“We’re excited to have Bryson coming back to Connecticut, where he’s played every year since turning professional,” Travelers executive vice president and chief administrative officer Andy Bessette said in a statement. “It’s important to us that we have the best player field possible, and Bryson gives us another top-10 player who is fun to watch.”

DeChambeau joins reigning champ and world No. 1 Dustin Johnson in what promises to be another stellar field. The tournament, which runs June 21-27, could be played in front of spectators this year, officials said earlier this month.

“We’re hoping to be able to welcome a limited number of spectators on-site at TPC River Highlands for this year’s event,” a Feb. 8 statement from tournament officials read. “The safety of the players, caddies, volunteers, sponsors, media and fans remains our top priority. We’re working closely with state and local officials, as well as the PGA TOUR, to create the best environment for everyone.”
