World Series champion and 8-time All-Star Robinson Cano to play for El Paso Chihuahuas
The San Diego Padres signed eight-time All-Star and 2009 World Series champion Robinson Cano to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Cano, a second baseman, will wear No. 24 for the Chihuahuas, who are at home against Albuquerque for a three-game series through Sunday. El Paso (32-25) is off Sunday and then plays six more games at home.
Friday and Saturday's games are at 6:35 p.m. and Sunday's game is at 6:05 pm
The 39-year-old Cano, who is from the Dominican Republic, has hit 335 career homers in the big leagues and driven in 1,306 runs. He has played with the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and San Diego.
