World Series: Eric Burton of Black Pumas sings wrong words to national anthem

The World Series began with a curveball to "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Black Pumas singer Eric Burton sang the national anthem at Game 1 of the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The frontman repeated and amalgamated words in the first verse and second verses of the song. It sounded like he sang:

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last streaming

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last streaming

The Black Pumas are a psychedelic-soul duo from Austin, Texas. They have been nominated for six Grammy Awards − including Album of the Year and Record of the Year in 2021 − over the past three years. Burton's career began as a busker in California and Texas before he was connected with Grammy-winning producer and guitarist Adrian Quesada to form Black Pumas.
