Welcome to the opening game of the 2023 World Series between the American League champion Texas Rangers and the National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

First inning

First pitch at 7:07 p.m. CT

ARIZONA: Corbin Carroll grounds out to first baseman Nathaniel Lowe who throws to Nathan Eovaldi covering first. And just like that, the Series is underway. Ketel Marte does the same thing, Lowe to Eovaldi. Gabriel Moreno strikes out. 3 up, 3 down.

TEXAS: Marcus Semien grounds out, then Corey Seager walks. Rookie Evan Carter then delivers the first run of the Series an RBI double of the base of the right-center field wall. Adolis Garcia then smacked a run-scoring single to left for a 2-0 Rangers lead. Mitch Garver grounds into an inning-ending double play.

Second inning

ARIZONA: Christian Walker strikes out, Tommy Pham strikes out, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. strikes out. That’s four in a row for Eovaldi.

TEXAS: Jonah Heim grounds out to second, Nathaniel Lowe grounds out to second. Josh Jung completes the 1-2-3 inning by striking out. RANGERS HOLD 2-0 lead through two.

Third inning

ARIZONA: Alek Thomas leads off with an infield single, Evan Longoria adds a single to the outfield. Geraldo Perdomo’s sacrifice bunt moves the runners to second and third base. Corbin Carroll then triples to center, scoring Thomas and Longoria to tie the game 2-2. Ketel Marte then hits a grounder to first baseman Nathaniel Lowe who attempts to cut Carroll down at the plate, but Carroll scores under the tag of Jonah Heim. Diamondbacks lead 3-2. Marte steals second base as Gabriel Moreno strikes out. Christian Walker strikes out to end the inning. DIAMONDBACKS lead 3-2.

TEXAS: Zac Gallen strikes out Leody Taveras, Marcus Semien, then walks Corey Seager. (his 14th this postseason). Evan Carter smacks a double to left, moving Seager to third. Adolis Garcia then walks to load the bases. Mitch Garver walks, forcing in Seager with the tying run, 3-3. Three of last four batters have walked. Jonah Heim flies out to end the inning.

Fourth inning

ARIZONA: Tommy Pham led off the inning with a solo homer to put the D-backs ahead 4-3. Nathan Eovaldi then got the next three outs in a row, but Arizona leads 4-3.

TEXAS: Nathaniel Lowe flies out to left, Josh Jung singles, Leody Taveras strikes out and Marcus Semien flies out to deep left to end the ininng. ARIZONA 4-3 through four.

Fifth inning

ARIZONA: Nathan Eovaldi picks up his eighth strikeout (Corbin Carroll), the most Ks for any Texas starting pitcher in a World Series game. However, the Diamondbacks get to him again. This time, Ketel Marte doubles to right-center to score Geraldo Perdomo who had singled to open the inning. Diamondbacks lead 5-3. After Christian Walker walks, manager Bruce Bochy takes Eovaldi out of the game. In comes reliever Dane Dunning. Dunning then retires Tommy Pham to end the inning.

TEXAS: Zac Gallen retires Rangers in order in the fifth. Headed to the 6th.

Sixth inning

ARIZONA: Lourdes Gurriel Jr. grounds out, ALek Thomas singles and Evan Longoria flies out. Cody Bradford comes in to pitch for the Rangers. Geraldo Perdomo lines out to end the inning. DIAMONDBACKS remain on top , 5-3.

TEXAS: Zac Gallen is out and Ryan Thompson is now on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Mitch Garver grounds out, Jonah Heim walks, Nathaniel Lowe flies out to deep right, then Josh Jung singles. With two on and two outs, Leody Taveras pops out to the catcher in foul territory. Still 5-3 Arizona.

Seventh inning

ARIZONA: Cody Bradford gets the first two outs on infield grounders. Jon Gray then becomes the next Rangers pitcher. He promptly retires Gabriel Moreno on a fly out to right field.

TEXAS: Joe Mantiply comes in to pitch for the Diamondbacks. Marcus Semien flies out to left, Corey Seager strikes out and Evan Carter popped out. A 1-2-3 inning. Headed to the eighth. Still Diamondbacks 5-3.

Eighth inning

ARIZONA: Jon Gray strikes out Christian Walker, Tommy Pham. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singles, but Alek Thomas strikes out to end the inning.

SELLOUT: 42,417. Largest paid attendance in history of Globe Life Field.

TEXAS: Kevin Ginkel enters the game to pitch for Arizona. Adolis Garcia opens the inning with a single to center. Mitch Garver strikes out, Jonah Heim walks. Josh Smith runs for Heim. With runners on first and second, Nathaniel Lowe pops out to left. With two out and two on, Josh Jung grounds out to short. Diamondbacks continue to lead 5-3, headed to the ninth.

Ninth inning

ARIZONA: After Jon Gray strikes out Evan Longoria, Will Smith comes in to pitch for the Rangers and gets the next two Diamondbacks in order (great catch by Adolis Gracia for final out). Going to the bottom of the ninth, Rangers trail 5-3.

TEXAS: Paul Sewald enters the game in a attempt to close down Game 1 for Arizona. Leody Taveras walks on five pitches. After Marcus Semien strikes out, Corey Seager unloads on a two-run home run deep into right field to tie the game 5-5. Evan Carter strikes out. Adolis Garcia is hit by a pitch to put the winning run on base. On the first pitch (a ball) to Mitch Garver, Garcia steals second base. Garver is then intentionally walked. Austin Hedges then strikes out to end the inning. Game tied 5-5 headed to the 10th.

10th inning

ARIZONA: WIth Texas closer Jose Leclerc on the mound, Ketel Marte grounds out to second, then strikes out Gabriel Moreno and induces Christian Walker into a fly out to center. Headed to the bottom of the 10th.

TEXAS: Kyle Nelson comes in to pitch for Arizona. After falling behind 0-2, Nathaniel Lowe induces a walk to lead off the inning. Josh Jung bounces into a 6-4-3 double play and Leody Taveras walks. Marcus Semien singles to left, moving Taveras to second base. And here comes Corey Seager again. With the winning run on second base, he grounds out to second.

11th inning

ARIZONA: With Jose Leclerc still on the mound for the Rangers, Tommy Pham flies out to left. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. strikes out for the second out and Alek Thomas pops out to third. Zeroes again for the Rangers bullpen.

TEXAS: Evan Carter flies out to right off Nelson. Miguel Castro enters the game for the Diamondbacks, facing Adolis Garcia who hits a walk-off home run to right field for a 6-5 Rangers win.

First pitch

President George W. Bush did not follow Derek Jeter’s advice on the ceremonial first pitch. The Hall of Famer told Bush not to bounce the pitch. He did. See it here (although the video clip doesn’t show the bounce in front of home plate).

Texas announced their World Series roster on Friday morning. There were no major surprises:
