Worlds of Fun implements chaperone policy for some kids after opening weekend fight

Worlds of Fun will require adult chaperones for some minors following a fight that involved more than 100 kids last week during the amusement park’s opening weekend.

Starting Saturday, guests ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old after 4 p.m. each day. Chaperones must provide a government-issued photo ID when they enter the park, stay at Worlds of Fun during the visit and be available by phone.

Guests without a chaperone after 4 p.m. will not be allowed to enter or remain at the park.

“For decades, Worlds of Fun has been a place where families and friends come together to enjoy our one-of-a-kind park,” the park wrote in a statement. “Millions of guests have counted on us for their daily dose of wholesome family fun, and we’re committed to keeping that promise going forward.”

The policy comes after law enforcement and park security broke up a fight Saturday night involving between 100 and 150 kids who were removed from the park.

Some kids told officials that another person in the crowd had produced a firearm, but authorities weren’t able to confirm those reports.

Several fights also broke out once officials moved the crowd into the parking lot, and one teen was arrested and released to her parents after punching a sheriff’s deputy in the face. The deputy’s injuries were superficial.
