World's Longest Yard Sale and scores of shoppers return Aug. 3-6

The first week in August is approaching, and so are shoppers for the World’s Longest Yard Sale.

It’s the 36th renewal of the sale, which originated in Fentress County, Tennessee, where it continues to be headquartered, and spread northward and southward.

Gadsden is the southernmost point, with hundreds of vendors usually setting up at Noccalula Falls Park, which according to the event’s website is one of the major vendor stops.

Others include 2266 Tabor Road, a little more than 2 miles from the park; the intersection of the Lookout Mountain Parkway and Alabama Highway 68; and Akins Shady Pines at the intersection of the parkway and DeKalb County Road 115, about a half-mile south of Akins Furniture Co.

The trail then passes through Georgia on the Lookout Mountain Parkway and after it hits Chattanooga, Tennessee, generally follows U.S. Highway 127 through Kentucky, Ohio and then to its ending point in Addison, Michigan.

The sale is known for its unpredictability; there’s no telling what shoppers may find, whether it’s antiques, collectibles, dishware, food and fresh produce, or furniture, and there’s also liable to be live entertainment along the way.
