It's worth being a subscriber to the Greenville News. Here's what you get

“Why should I subscribe to the Greenville News?”

It’s a question that we get a lot around here. In a world where there seems to be a lot of news available at no cost, what are the benefits of being a subscriber to The News.

Where to begin?

The Greenville News has always been and continues to be in the heart of Greenville. We have local reporters and editors who are devoted to this community. Every day, we come to work thinking about how the work we do can help Greenville become a better place.

That’s not a bad starting point. The team that works here and makes news decisions for this organization starts every day the same way that many of you do: Driving to work, noting what’s going on around them and then asking a fundamental question. Why?

Then we go find out the whys. And the whos, whats, whens and wheres. And we tell you.

Consider these few stories that we’ve published in the past week:

Angelia Davis has been plugged into a fight over development in the Pebble Creek neighborhood all spring. This week, she delivered a great story for our subscribers about why they are concerned about what development comes their way. Then, on Wednesday night, she was the first to deliver news that Greenville County once again voted against a development plan in the Pebble Creek neighborhood.

Angelia also wrote a compelling story about a group of homeowners in the Moonville community who are fighting against a plan that would destroy historic homes there. No one else has told this story about the clash of our community's growth and its historic character. And we're always looking for ways to show you the cost of growth and talk about how we can all work together to grow smarter.

We also had the most comprehensive coverage of the opening of Greenville's new Unity Park last week. Downtown reporter Macon Atkinson spent the week showing you the costs of Unity Park, the people the city says it was built to honor, and how the $66 million park's opening was received in our community. It's a story we'll continue to pursue throughout the summer as the latest stage in the park's construction -- a controversial observation tower -- goes from approval to reality.

Most of these stories were available only to our subscribers. But if you didn't see them, then you didn't get the whole story.

And with a full-access digital subscription, you never have to worry about missing a Greenville News story. You'll have access to it all.

And if you pair that with your mobile app that can send alerts to your phone whenever news breaks, you don't ever have to miss an important happening in Greenville.

Here's the best news. If you're a new subscriber, this is a great time to buy a digital subscription to The News. You can get 1 year for $9.99 through June 1. That's about what it costs to buy two cups of coffee at your favorite coffee shop or lunch at a downtown restaurant. And you can read us for a year.

Give us a try.

There's more, too. As a subscriber, you get all of our great sports content and access to content from other USA TODAY Network newspapers in our e-edition.
