It’s Worth It: Worthington Schools celebrating achievement

In Worthington Schools, we are so fortunate to have amazing people as part of our organization. This year, many of them have been recognized both nationally and in Ohio for their work serving students and the community. We also have several students who have been recognized for their academic achievements nationally.

Megan Kirsten was named Ohio’s Assistant Principal of the Year, recognized at the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators fall conference in October. Megan has worked as an AP at both Thomas Worthington High School and McCord Middle School. In each school, she has been a positive and "can-do" leader who serves students, staff and families in an exemplary way. We're very proud that this award is being given to a Worthington administrator who clearly is deserving of the award.

The Midwest School Social Work Council is congratulating Lara Ruffing (Worthingway Middle School), who has been selected as the 2022 Ohio School Social Worker of the Year. This award is presented to one school social worker from each state whose work in schools and communities exemplifies the highest quality of school social-work services. Lara's passion, dedication and professional expertise are a few of the reasons why she was selected.

Jill Burkholder at Thomas Worthington was announced as Ohio's School Secretary of the Year for 2022. Jill serves her school community with patience and a calmness that has ensured she is the go-to person if you need help with almost anything.

Jennifer Best has been selected as an All-Ohio School Board member by the Ohio School Boards Association. Earning the All-Ohio School Board award is not an easy feat. Those earning this achievement exemplify good governance by committing the time and effort needed to support their students and community.

Congratulations to our students who were named semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship program in September. They join less than 1% of high school seniors in the U.S. who are vying for roughly 7,500 National Merit scholarships that will be awarded in the spring. These students are Meena Lee, Tobias Shaw, Aja Sampath and Daniel Battle from Worthington Kilbourne High School and Luke Featherstone and Joshua Kim from Thomas Worthington.

Worthington is a school district that empowers a community of learners who will change the world. These highlights represent a fraction of what our students and staff are doing every day to make our schools and community better. If you see someone going above and beyond, please share it with us or maybe even put something positive on your social media. Join us in celebrating the good things happening throughout our community.
