Worthington man to present program on Scandinavian carving

Oct. 9—WINDOM — Dan Bogie of Worthington will give a presentation on Scandinavian flat plane carving at the Stavanger Lodge 1-538 Sons of Norway meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cottonwood County Historical Museum, 812 4th Ave., Windom.

Bogie's interest in wood carving began with researching his mother's ancestry. A DNA test confirmed his 67% Norwegian heritage, which spurred him looking into Scandinavian crafts, particularly wood carving. A 2012 spoon carving gathering at the Milan Village Arts School got him started carving, leading him to take classes from master wood carver Harley Refsal.

Bogie will present two videos featuring Refsal in action and display projects Bogie has worked on, including spoon carvings, gnomes and bowls.

The public is cordially invited.

Refreshments will be served according to CCHS, CDC and Minnesota Health Department COVID-19 protocols. Masks and social distancing are required in the museum for unvaccinated individuals.
