Worthington parishioners celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi with a parade downtown
Jun. 20—WORTHINGTON — Hundreds of parishioners from St. Mary's 11 a.m. Spanish Mass paraded from the church to the 10th Street Pavillion on Sunday honoring the Feast of Corpus Christi, the presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the church's communion ritual of bread and wine.
It was the first time since 2019 that the church has been able to have the parade, which included stopping for praise at several stations, including Noah's Ark and The Last Supper, as both young and old walked Worthington's 10th Street.
"This has been going on for years," said Raquel Avila, a representative from UFCW Local 663 who joined in the celebration.
Along the route, the parishioners were given a blessing.
"This is celebrated around the world by Catholics," Avila said. "We gather to honor the sacred body of Jesus Christ. We celebrate by doing the procession to the pavilion to honor and remember. Thanks to him, we are here."
The parade included several young girls in white dresses, each of whom celebrated her first communion on Sunday, and one float featuring praise music by local musicians and singers.
