Wounded Ukrainian child cries out for his father

STORY: A nurse attempts to comfort Dima who calls out asking 'Is my Daddy coming?', although the boy's father is being treated in another part of the hospital.

The hospital in Zaporizhzhia, some 124 miles away from the coastal town of Mariupol on the southeast has taken in a number of children from the city.

Zaporizhzhia, an industrial town that has become a key transit point for evacuees fleeing from Mariupol, has seen busloads of evacuees arrive in the city before moving further west.

Mariupol, a port city on the Sea of Azov, has become a symbol of suffering more than a month after Russia invaded its smaller neighbor in what the Kremlin calls its assault a "special operation" to disarm and "denazify" Ukraine.

According to city authorities in Mariupol, nearly 5,000 people, including about 210 children, have been killed since the Russian assault began.

Russia denies its forces target civilians but local authorities say at least 80% of the city has been destroyed and United Nations agencies have warned of "extremely dire" conditions in Mariupol and other cities.
