Wranglers Roundup: Amarillo splits series with Odessa over the weekend
After getting swept by the Shreveport Mudbugs last week, the Amarillo Wranglers faired a little bit better this weekend.
A little bit.
Amarillo hosted the Odessa Jackalopes at the Budweiser Bullpen over the weekend and won Friday night before dropping a contest Saturday. The Wranglers are 7-1-0-1 on the season and sit in second in the division.
Friday night was a wild, 8-6 victory that was tied 3-3 after the first period before the Wranglers dominated period number two to go up 6-3. Both teams piled up the goals in the third with the Jackalopes holding the edge, but the damage done in the second gave Amarillo the win. Rihards Simanovics finished the game with a hat trick.
The second game didn't go quiet as well. The Wranglers fell behind big early and couldn't come back as they fell 5-1.
Amarillo will hit the road this week for a two-game series against the New Mexico Ice Wolves. The two teams will play Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. each night.
