Velvet Taco is ready to join in on the Red Raider bandwagon with a new Wreck 'Em menu and budget-friendly specials.

The specials began on Jan. 23 with a daily happy hour and new menu items, inspired by food memories and nostalgia.

Venecia Willis, Director of Culinary and chef for Velvet Taco, described how the new items were crafted.

"We want to connect people with food memories and things people can relate to," Willis said. "The creativity behind it was to find things that the college student population craves and is delicious."

New menu items include:

  • Burger & Fries: smash burger, queso blanco, french fries, cheddar, spicy ketchup in a flour tortilla.

  • Chicken & Avocado Salad: crispy chicken bites, avocado, lettuce, cucumber, creole vinaigrette, honey Dijon, tomato in a lettuce wrap.

  • Chicken & Mac n' Cheese: crisp tender, mac n' cheese, queso blanco, red chile aioli in a flour tortilla.

  • Chicken Tenders: crisp tenders, corn pico, avocado crema, cheese blend in a flour tortilla.

  • Hangover Breakfast: slow-roasted angus brisket, slow-roasted pulled pork, peppered bacon, crispy potatoes, fluffy egg, cheese blend in a flour tortilla.

  • Burger Quesadilla: smash burger, cheese blend in a flour tortilla, with a side of spicy ketchup.

  • Brisket Mac n' Cheese: mac n' cheese, slow-roasted angus brisket with queso blanco.

Willis recommended people try the classic Burger & Fries for a hearty meal, or the Burger Quesadilla with the spicy ketchup for something quick. The Chicken & Avocado Salad also offers a lighter bite.

"I would definitely try the Chicken & Mac n' Cheese taco with our red chile aioli; that one is a winner in my book," Willis said.

The Happy Hour deal will be 2-6 p.m. daily and all day on Tuesdays for dine-in guests. It will not be available online. Wreck 'Em Tacos will come with a fountain drink for $8.59, and two regular tacos and a fountain drink will be $9.59. People can change their drink to a regular margarita for $6 more.

"Come in and try it out," Willis said. "We love all feedback, and I'll actually be in Lubbock (next month) to meet with guests and get feedback. I'd love to see you there."

Willis plans to visit Lubbock on Feb. 9 and will meet with guests and hear feedback on the menu.
