For six years after connecting online, local businessman, arts patron and family man Edward “Ted” Boucher allegedly had a relationship with a much younger woman who sold sex to pay for her addiction to crack cocaine and heroin. Their association started as a prostitution connection but developed into something more serious, according to Leighanne Attridge, 32, who gave emotional testimony Wednesday in the trial of Christopher Wernle, 49, accused of bludgeoning 65-year-old Boucher to death in May 2021. Prosecutors allege that Wernle was jealous of Boucher and Attridge’s bond.

Strong winds are being blamed for the partial collapse of siding on a long-vacant former downtown hotel. Panels several stories high buckled and tore loose from the building’s north face Thursday, windows and all, exposing century-old brick underneath. Some sections fell to the sidewalk and street below, but no one was hurt. The 10-story structure, which once housed the Richford Hotel, sits at the corner of Chestnut and Elm streets and is adjacent to the also-vacant Cadillac Hotel. Efforts to revive both properties over many years stalled.

A woman who previously lived in Webster and allegedly abducted her 11-month-old daughter was found with the child Thursday in Chautauqua County, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Adrienne Grace Marean, 35, faces a federal charge of felony concealment of a child. Police in West Virginia allege that Marean — who still has family members living in Webster, where the search initially centered — failed to transfer custody of the girl to her father in February in violation of a court order.
