Here are the wrestlers that won sectional gold and punched their tickets to districts

Saturday was a banner day for local wrestlers as the individual postseason kicked off in earnest with six sectional tournaments: two in Class 2A and four in Class 3A.

One team and 18 individuals walked away with championships while an additional 96 wrestlers also punched their tickets to the District 3 tournaments, which will be held Feb. 24-25 at Central Dauphin East (Class 2A) and Spring Grove (Class 3A).

As a team, Central York outlasted Spring Grove, 181.5-180 to win the championship at the Class 3A Section IV championships held at South Western. The key to victory for the Panthers? Four individual champions to the Rockets three.

Here is a quick look at each sectional winner from York, Adams, Franklin and Lebanon counties, as well as each district qualifier:

Tyler Adams, York Suburban

The Trojans junior picked up his first career sectional championship in dominant fashion, taking the 127-pound championship at the District 3 Class 3A Section IV championships. Adams outscored his opponents 50-5 in his three tech-fall victories.

Teague Conover, Spring Grove

Conover scored three straight falls to win the 215-pound championship at the 3A Section IV championships. It was his second sectional championship. The senior dominated, scoring falls in all three of his bouts, including a fall in 1:43 in the championship against Susquehannock’s Tim Hall.

Carter Davis, Central York

Davis, a junior, dominated the 152-pound weight class on his way to a championship at the 3A Section IV championships. It was his second career sectional championship, and he won this one via a 14-1 major decision against Waynesboro’s Garrett Lowans.

Wyatt Dillon, Central York

Following a pair of runner-up finishes, the junior finally broke through for a sectional crown, winning the 145-pound weight class (3A Section IV). Dillon defeated Gettysburg’s Dalton Redden, 8-0, in the final.

Zach Evans, Chambersburg

Evans defeated Shippensburg’s Diesel Koser, 6-3, in the 215-pound final at the 3A Section III championships at Mechanicsburg. Evans picked up a pair of falls to advance to the finals where he won his first championship.

Dominic Frontino, Shippensburg

Frontino, a senior, recorded his second sectional championship, dominating the 160-pound weight class at the 3A Section III championships. The highlight was an 18-second fall against Central Dauphin East’s Alaa Aly in the semifinal round.

Griffin Gonzalez, Lebanon

The Cedars senior impressed at the 3A Section I championships at Governor Mifflin. Gonzalez posted three falls, each in under three minutes, to win the second sectional championship of his career, this one at 152-pounds.

Michael Hershey, Spring Grove

Prior to picking up his 7-0 win in the final against Central York’s Ian Scully, Hershey, a junior, spent just 1:31 on the mat, recording a pair of falls en route to the 285-pound championship at the 3A Section IV championship.

Elijah Hewitt, Northeastern

Hewitt, a sophomore, won his second sectional championship, winning the 121-pound weight class (3A Section IV). He defeated Red Lion’s Jackson Orrell, 7-3 in the championship, avenging a 7-1 loss to Orrell earlier in the season.

Elias Long, Central York

The Panthers’ junior scored a takedown with 34 seconds left, breaking a 2-2 tie with Gettysburg’s Gabriel Pecaitis to win the 139-pound title (3A Section IV).

Luke Mentzer, Chambersburg

The Trojans senior picked up his second career sectional championship with a 10-5 victory against Cumberland Valley’s Alex Tennis in the 127-pound final (3A Section III). Mentzer picked up a pair of first-period falls to advance to the championship final.

Macon Myers, Central York

The Panthers’ senior won his second straight sectional championship, winning the 172-pound crown (3A Section IV). He recorded a pair of falls to reach the finals before winning by forfeit in the championship round.

Tanner Rock, Littlestown

Rock, a sophomore, recorded three falls, winning the 172-pound weight class at the Class 2A Section I championships at Susquenita. He recorded a pair of first-period falls on his way to the final before finishing off his journey to the title with a fall in 5:27 against West Perry’s Carter Nace.

Steven Rosado, Elco

The Elco grappler went the distance in all three of his bouts, winning the 127-pound weight class at the Class 3A Section I championship at Governor Mifflin. The sophomore started out with an 8-0 major decision against Octorara’s Liam Kernan. He followed that up by knocking off the No. 1 seed Luke Morley, 6-2, in the semifinals before posting an 8-3 decision against Exeter Township’s Joey Henderson in the final.

Aaron Seidel, Northern Lebanon

The Vikings sophomore began his trek toward a second PIAA title, spending just over two minutes on the mat, picking up a pair of falls to win the 107-pound championship in the Class 2A Section II championships at Central Dauphin East.

Levi Snyder, Spring Grove

Snyder, a senior, won his second sectional championship, defeating Waynesboro’s Jayden Rooney, 6-3, to win the 133-pound weight class (3A Section IV). Snyder added a fall and a major decision in his other two bouts.

Cole Staker, Eastern York

The Golden Knights freshman avenged an earlier loss to Biglerville’s Levi Roberts in the semifinal, picking up a 4-2 victory before finishing off his run to the 189-pound championship with a 4-3 victory against Halifax’s Carter Enders at the 2A Section I championships at Susquenita.

Hayden Yacoviello-Andrus, Bermudian Springs

The Eagles freshman spent a total of 8:33 on the mat, recording a pair of falls and a tech fall, winning the 127-pound title. Yacoviello-Andrus outscored his opponents, 38-3, throughout the day at the 2A Section I championship at Susquenita.
