Wrestling: Fan information, schedule and entries for the 2023 Eastern States Classic

For the first time in three years and since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Eastern States Classic is back at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake.

With representatives from 149 schools across seven states competing at the Eastern States Classic, it's no surprise that some wrestling fanatics regard this tournament as more challenging and prestigious than states.

Unlike the state tournament, which separates wrestlers by divisions based on school size, the Eastern States Classic mixes Division I (large school), Division II (small school) and out-of-state talent into a large field of competitors to see who is the best.

The two-day ultra-competitive wrestling event is set for Friday and Saturday at Sullivan Community College's Paul Gerry Fieldhouse in Loch Sheldrake.

Clarkstown North's Justin Smoot defeats Clarkstown South's Alfred Smith in a 285-pound match during a dual meet at Clarkstown North High School in New City on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Clarkstown South won the meet 41-30.

Since its inception, the Eastern States Classic has attracted the best wrestlers from New York and beyond. A majority of participating schools are usually located in the northeast, but the tournament has also fielded registrations from the west coast and deep south in previous years.

Of the 499-person field, approximately 70 of them are from the Lower Hudson Valley and 61 from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties in Section 9.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at TicketLeap.com. They are either $20 per day, or $30 for a two-day pass. Students under 21 and seniors over the age of 55 can purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $10 per day or $15 for a two-day pass. Concessions will be available.
