Wrestling updates: Blair Academy maintains No. 1 rank with win over Wyoming Seminary

BLAIRSTOWN - It was only fitting that the nation's top two ranked wrestling teams went down to the wire.

Blair Academy, the No. 1 ranked program in the country, outlasted second-ranked Wyoming Seminary, 32-26 Friday night at Blair Academy.

The Buccaneers took the annual prep showdown when the Blue Knights forfeited the final match of the night at heavyweight, breaking a 26-26 tie.

Peter Snyder's sudden-victory takedown and 6-4 win over Dom Federici at 175 pounds secured the match for the home team.

Blair had the edge in matches, 8-7 and gained distance in the middle, winning four straight between 132-150 pounds for 15 points and a 20-9 lead through eight bouts. The highlight of the stretch was at 144 when Blair's Logan Rozynski pinned Smokey McClure in 3:18 for the Bucs second fall of the night.

The Blue Knights climbed out of a late 12-point hole through 11 bouts when Josh Cordio (190) and Jude Correa (215) pinned to tie the match, 26-26.

This was the third meeting between the schools in the last four years. Wyoming Seminary, the defending National Prep Champions, won last year's meeting, 31-26, in Kingston, Pa. in a match that also went down to the final bout.

In 2020, Blair Academy won four of the last five bouts to secure a 31-24 win. Wyoming Seminary, however, went on to win the National Prep Championship that year, unseating the Buccaneers, which won five straight titles between 2015 and 2019.
