Wrestling rewind: Hamilton tops Holland; WO's Foster sweeps ranked foes

The Hamilton wrestling team swept a double dual match on Wednesday, defeating Holland 50-18 and Unity Christian 74-6.

Going undefeated for the Hawkeyes were Mathew Fales (106), Malachi Kapenga (113), Ethan Goodwin (120), Bryce Morrison (126),Eli Ramsey (138), Brandon Olson (144), Jake Chase (150), Tyler Block (157), Remy Foster (190), Shane Dams (215) and Seth Nevins (285).

Holland also defeated Wyoming 69-12.

Winning two matches on the night for Holland were Joel Morin, Seth Rodriguez and Andres Valkema.

West Ottawa swept

The West Ottawa Panthers wrestling team competed in the OK Red Conference quad at Rockford High School, facing off against the Grand Haven Buccaneers and the Hudsonville Eagles.

Grand Haven won 61-13, and Hudsonville won 54-24.

Despite the losses, there were a few standout performances from the Panthers (8-8). At 130-pounds, Kaitlynn Heck, while 132-pound wrestler Anthony Jaramillo, and 157-pound wrestler Owen Foster all remained undefeated throughout the quad meet.

Foster defeated eighth-ranked Bode Wilson from Grand Haven and pinned No. 14 ranked Jaxon Siler from Hudsonville.

"It's hard to expect so much from our young and inexperienced team. But they keep consistently showing up and competing against seasoned teams in the OK Red Conference," West Ottawa coach Ryan Lancaster said.

Dux split

Zeeland West wrestled against Grand Rapids Union and Allendale. The Dux defeated Union 51-27 and fell to Allendale 83-0.

Winning matches on varsity tonight were Justin Sanchez, Kham Phothisan, Austin Ulberg, Robert Dodd, Noah Quick, Seth Frye, Troy Postema, Nate Machiele, and Brody Smeyers.

Chix split

Zeeland East Wrestling traveled to Spring Lake tonight to face the host Lakers and conference foe Mona Shores.  East opened the night beating Mona Shores 59 to 21 but fell in a close contest against Spring Lake 34-42.  Undefeated on the night for the East varsity were Gavin Drenten (120), Gabe Amid (175), Atari Kuras (215), and Parker Williams (285).
