North Kitsap boys wrestling coach Robert Gomez isn't sure if the Vikings have ever won a sub-regional wrestling title. They certainly hadn't done so during Gomez's tenure with the team — until Saturday.

Behind the strength of six individual champions and unmatched depth, North Kitsap dominated the field at the Olympic League 2A sub-regional championships at Bremerton High School. The Vikings scored 366 points, securing top spot in the team standings prior to the start of Saturday's title matches. Olympic placed second with 206 points, followed by North Mason (188.5), Bremerton (166), Port Angeles (163), Sequim (115) and Kingston (42).

Fifteen Vikings finished in the top four in their respective weight classes to earn a trip to next week's regional tournament, scheduled for Feb. 11 at North Mason.

"We've never had this consistent of a team," said Gomez, who's been with North Kitsap's program for eight seasons, including six as head coach.

Champions for the Vikings included sophomore Wyatt Trogden (126 pounds), freshman Wyatt Sloman (132), sophomore Jaxon Johnson (138), senior Jake Poggie (160), sophomore Zakaria Hammou (195) and senior Sofian Hammou (220).

Olympic, North Mason and Bremerton each boasted a pair of title-winners. For the Trojans, freshman Xion Home prevailed at 113 pounds and sophomore Kevin Hudson won at 285; for the Bulldogs, junior Pedro Salvador (145) and senior Jake Mathews (152) reached the top of the podium; senior Thor Michaelson (170) and junior Lars Michaelson (182) secured titles for the host Knights.
