Sep. 3—The Wright Center for Community Health is now administering recently approved COVID-19 vaccine boosters, according to an announcement Friday.

Federal health officials last week authorized the use of the new shots, called bivalent vaccines, according to the Wright Center. The updated boosters are intended to help contain a possible surge of new cases this fall and winter, according to the announcement. They target the original coronavirus strain as well as the two omicron subvariants responsible for spreading the most sickness, according to the Wright Center.

Updated vaccines are available to those who completed their initial shots, regardless of boosters, as long as their last shot was at least two months ago, according to the announcement.

The updated Moderna booster can be given as a single dose to those 18 and older.

The Pfizer-BioNTech version can be given to those 12 and up.
