Wrong-way crash with West Jefferson police cruiser sends sergeant to hospital
WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio (WCMH) — A West Jefferson police sergeant was hospitalized late Sunday night after a driver on the wrong side of a highway crashed into his patrol cruiser.
The West Jefferson Police Department said a sergeant was on duty around 11 p.m. and driving his marked cruiser west on U.S. Route 40. At the same time, another vehicle was driving east in the westbound lanes and hit the cruiser head-on.

Photos showed that both vehicles sustained serious damage to their hoods as emergency crews responded to the crash. The sergeant was taken to Grant Medical Center with minor injuries and has since been released.
Police said the people in the wrong-way vehicle were taken to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
