Wrong-way driver charged with DUI manslaughter in fatal June crash in Lake Wales

LAKE WALES — A man initially charged with vehicular homicide in June after driving in the wrong lane in Lake Wales and hitting a woman head-on was arrested Tuesday and charged with DUI manslaughter.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said 39-year-old Mark Anthony Poe of Frostproof was arrested again Tuesday in the June 26 crash that killed a 27-year-old Lake Wales woman. Sheriff's officials say he drove a white 2009 Chevrolet Silverado west in the eastbound lanes on State Road 60.

After the crash, Poe recovered in the hospital before he was booked into the Polk County Jail on vehicular homicide charges. He was released July 1 after paying a $100,000 bond.

Poe is in the Polk County Jail and is not eligible for bond. He has an arraignment hearing scheduled Aug. 2 at the Bartow Courthouse.
