WSDOT wants your feedback on improving portions of I-5 in Thurston and Lewis counties
The Washington Department of Transportation is having a series of online open houses to collect feedback from people who use Interstate 5 in southern Thurston County and northern Lewis County. It’s in an effort to better understand what improvements and investments are needed in the corridor.
Project information became available on WSDOT’s website March 17, and feedback and questions can be submitted until March 31.
According to a news release from WSDOT, improvements are needed to the corridor because the population is growing and congestion has worsened during weekday peak commute times. This has led to significant backups and delays, according to the release.
The state department is conducting a corridor study to reduce congestion and identify potential improvements, including a new bridge over the Chehalis River, a new interchange near the county line, a roundabout, bicycle and pedestrian improvements and more.
The corridor study is being funded for $1 million through the state’s Connecting Washington transportation initiative.
