WT ROUNDUP: Track team qualifies 29 for NCAA DII Nationals

Twenty-nine members of the West Texas A&M track team have qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Twelve Lady Buffs will compete in 10 individual events while 17 members of the men's team will take part in 12 events.

Four national champions from last years team will attempt to defend their titles in Zada Swoopes (shot put, discus), Taylor Nelloms (triple jump), Butare Rugenerwa (800m) and Benjamin Azamati (100m, 200m).

Additionally, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Rating Index has ranked the men's team No. 1 and women's team No. 2 in the country.

Nationals will take place in Allendale, Michigan from May 26-28.

Men's basketball lands Minnesota State transfer

Buffs head coach Tom Brown announced the signing of Minnesota State transfer Ryland Holt.

The 6-foot-6 guard from Gibson City, Illinois started 38 out of the 58 games he played in for the Mavericks over the past three seasons. He averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds during his time in Mankato.

Holt also earned Conference All-Academic honors his sophomore year.

Women's hoops adds Northwest Nazarene transfer

Head coach Josh Prock announced that the women's basketball team added Nyalam Thabach to the roster.

Thabach comes to WT after playing the last two seasons for Northwest Nazarene. She started 33 of the 39 games she played for the Nighthawks, averaging 11.9 points per contest. She was a second team All-Conference selection during her time in Nampa, Idaho.

Five baseball players make All-Regional team

The All-Region honors continue to roll in for WTAMU.

The D2CCA All-South Central Region Teams have been unveiled and five members of the baseball team have earned selections. Adam Becker and Ryan Johnson were chosen as members of the first team while Will Fuenning, Eddy Savoie and Nick Marshall made the second team.

Becker (.409, 21 home runs, 90 RBI) and Johnson (.409, 10 home runs, 60 RBI) were both already named to the All-Conference team. Fuenning (.351, 13 home runs, 63 RBI), Savoie (.354, 52 RBI) and Marshall (11-3, 4.43 ERA) were all outstanding for the Buffs this season.

Salzman earns All-Academic recognition

Rub Salzman play on the softball field has nothing short of spectacular. Her performance in the classroom is just as outstanding.

Salazar, a junior, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. She is one of eight members of the Lone Star Conference to earn the recognition.

It's the second time the two-time All-American receives the academic honor.
