WT ROUNDUP: Uwajeneza wins second straight TTU Open

For the second consecutive year, a member of the West Texas A&M cross country team won the Texas Tech Open.

In fact, it was the same exact person.

Florance Uwajeneza took first place in the TTU Open with a time of 20:58.2. The Lady Buffs, currently ranked No. 21 in the country, finished second as a team.

As for the men, currently ranked No. 24 in the country, Innocent Murwanashyaka was the top performer as he took 11th place with a time of 25:22.6. His teammate Butare Rugenerwa finished right behind him in 12th with a time of 25:23.8 as the team finished in fourth overall.

Volleyball opens conference play with back-to-back wins

The Lady Buffs opened up Lone Star Conference play with a four-set win over DBU on Friday 22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21. Torey Miller led the way with 26 kills while Emma Becker added 12 kills and three blocks.

WT followed that up with another win on Saturday against UT Tyler. It was a five-set battle that the Lady Buffs edged out 12-25, 25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 15-12. Miller was dominant once again with 21 kills, an ace and five blocks while Kayla Elliot recorded 10 kills, two aces and four blocks.

WT is now 9-4 overall and 2-0 in LSC play.

Men's soccer drops game to Lubbock Christian

The No. 18 men's soccer team fell behind two goals to none before Kenny Brown scored in the 86th minute. They didn't score again as they lost to Lubbock Christian.

WT is now 2-2-3 on the season with one tie in conference play. They wrap up non-conference play against Oklahoma Christian on Saturday.
