WT ROUNDUP: Volleyball wins 17th Lone Star Conference Championship

For the 17th time, the West Texas A&M volleyball team is champions of the Lone Star Conference.

The Lady Buffs swept Dallas Baptist University over the weekend to clinch the title and is slated to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. They will be the No. 2 seed after finishing 27-4 overall and 16-0 in conference.

This will be the 29th appearance in the NCAA tournament for WT, which is slated to face off against No. 7 UT-Tyler at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Football loses season finale to Simon Fraser

BURNABY, British Columbia — Simon Fraser entered Saturday's season finale with WT 0-8 on the season. They ended the weekend with a triumph after downing West Texas A&M 46-16 in the last game of the regular season the Buffs.

The Buffs lost 46-14 on the road.

Touchdown runs by Jarrod Compton and Shakell Brown were all the WT offense could muster, while the defensive did not force a Simon Fraser punt in the first half, en route to a disappointing end to the year.

WT ends the year 5-6 overall and 3-6 in LSC play.

Women's soccer season comes to an end

DALLAS — The Lady Buffs soccer team ended the year following a 2-0 loss to No. 1-ranked Dallas Baptist over the weekend.

WT, which attempted 14 shots in the contest, ends the year 14-4-4 while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Women's basketball wins over the weekend

WT's women's basketball team is currently ranked No. 6 in the country and may move up after a positive result over the weekend.

The Lady Buffs are 4-0 on the season after a 75-67 win over South Dakota Mines on Saturday. Karley Motschenbacher led the way with 19 points, while Nyalam Thabach added 19 points as well.

WT plays its home opener at 6 p.m. Friday against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Canyon.
