WT SPORTS BRIEFS: Zach Toussaint earns LSC weekly honors, leads Buffs to undefeated Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic showing

West Texas A&M's Zach Toussaint was labeled the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week announced by the league's offices on Monday afternoon. Toussaint becomes the second player this season to earn the weekly conference honors joining Kavon Booker.

The Johnsburg, Illinois product averaged 19.3 points for the men's basketball program that recorded three victories in week three action while shooting 45% from the floor, 46.3 percent from the three and a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line to total 58 points.

In WT's 94-74 win over Midwestern State on Nov. 22, Toussaint set a new career-high with 27 points after going 11-for-19 from the field including five 3-pointers. He also led the scoring in Saturday's win 79-56 over Southwestern Oklahoma State to finish the tournament undefeated.

In Saturday's contest, the Buffs limited SWOSU to 32.1% shooting from the field while shooting 43.4% themselves and forced 17 turnovers on the Bulldogs. Julius Brown ended the contest with 16 points while WT recorded 38 rebounds as a team.

WT will hit the road to take on Eastern New Mexico (3-3, 0-0 LSC) at 8:30 p.m. CT Thursday, for a non-conference matchup at the Greyhound Arena.

Women's basketball

Four players in double-figures as the Lady Buffs ended the Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic unbeaten with a 62-51 win over the Western Colorado Mountaineers on Saturday at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

Zamorye Roberts led the way for the Lady Buffs as the junior went 6-of-17 from the floor including 2-of-7 from deep for a game-high 15 points to go along with four steals. Alivia Lewis finished with 12 points, five boards and two blocks while Haylei Janssens went 5-of-7 from the field with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds.

The Lady Buffs finished the game going 21-of-63 (33.3%) from the field including 3-of-13 (23.1%) from deep and 17-of-25 (68%) from the free-throw line with 42 rebounds, five assists, 13 turnovers, four blocks and 11 steals in the win.

The Lady Buffs head down Highway 60 on Thursday night for a non-conference rivalry showdown with the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT in Portales, New Mexico.
