The WTA & ATP will not award ranking points for Wimbledon due to ban on players from Russia & Belarus.

The Women’s Tennis Association and the Association of Tennis Professionals will not award rankings for the Wimbledon this year, leaving it to be an exhibition of tennis greats on the court.

The decision was taken because the All England Club banned players from Russia and Belarus to participate in the tournament following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement earlier this month, the All England Club and the Committee of Management of The Championships expressed their support for everyone impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The decision comes two days before the start of the French Open and a little more than a month before the Wimbledon begins on June 27.

The ban was criticized by Novak Djokovic, the 20-time Grand Slam winner, who called it a “crazy” decision and claimed that tennis players or athletes have nothing to do with war.

Rafael Nadal, the winner of the maximum number of grand slams also deemed the ban unfair.
