After six seasons, and accumulating a whole lot of hardware, West Texas A&M assistant volleyball coach Casey Shingler is taking the next step up.

Shingler, the reigning Division II National Assistant Coach of the Year for volleyball, has accepted the position of associate head coach for the volleyball team at UTSA, a Division I program. WT announced Shingler's departure on Monday with UTSA announcing his hire a few hours later.

"Many experiences have helped shape my coaching journey, but being a part of the West Texas A&M community will forever be a guiding light," Shingler said through a statement released by WT. "Through the past six seasons, I have been honored to work alongside some of the best coaches and administration in the nation and been blessed with the opportunity to help lead and celebrate a special group of student athletes."

Shingler was named National Assistant Coach of the Year for the Division II level this past season after he helped guide WT to the NCAAA Division II National championship for the fifth time in school history. A graduate of the University of Arizona where he played libero, Shingler received a Masters from the University of Arkansas Monticello, where he began his coaching career as an assistant.

After a brief stint as an assistant, he was promoted to head coach in 2011 where he proceeded to double UAM's win total from the previous year. He also coached at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012 where he helped the team produced the nation's highest dig average.

Now, he returns to the Division I level as one of the top-ranking coaches on the staff for the Roadrunners.

"Although we are extremely sad to lose Casey and all he brings to Lady Buff volleyball, we are so excited for his opportunity to continue pursuing his career goals and dreams," WT head coach Kendra Potts said via a statement released by WT. "He has left his permanent mark with WT and the Lady Buff volleyball program."
