Wuhan celebrates reopening with light show

At midnight, the city began to allow people to leave for the first time since its lockdown began 76 days ago.

The first train carrying departing passengers left at 00:50 a.m., and outbound highways were opened to vehicular traffic around the same time.

State broadcaster CCTV showed footage of traffic passing through a highway checkpoint to leave the city.

China sealed off the city of 11 million people on January 23 after it became clear that the flu-like virus that had emerged there late last year was highly contagious and potentially deadly.

Based on ticket sales, 55,000 people will leave Wuhan by train on Wednesday, CCTV reported, citing the railway authority.
