Wuhan residents dance their worries away

"Square dancing", or mass dances that usually take place in public squares, plazas or parks, is a popular daily past time in China which both men and women take part in, mainly in the evenings.

But like other large gatherings, they were banned across China from late January for a few months in a bid to curb the virus' spread, and have only recently resumed in Wuhan which lifted its 76-day lockdown on April 8.

However, there are concerns over a potential resurgence after the epicenter of China's epidemic last week reported its first cluster of coronavirus infections since the city's lockdown was lifted.

Wuhan authorities have launched a city-wide campaign to test its 11 million residents for the coronavirus in response.

Mainland China reported five new confirmed COVID-19 cases for May 16, down from eight the previous day, the National Health Commission said in a statement on Sunday (May 17).
