Wust win world allround championships

HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (AP) — Ireen Wust and Koen Verweij of the Netherlands won the women's and men's speedskating allround championships Sunday, completing a standout year for the Dutch team.

Wust won the 1,500 meters and came second in the 5,000 meters to countrywoman Yvonne Nauta at Thialf oval, after winning the 500 and 3,000 on Saturday.

Olga Graf of Russia was second overall and Nauta finished third.

Just weeks after Dutch speedskaters dominated the Sochi Olympics, they did the same at the season's closing event.

Verweij finished second in the 1,500 and third in the 10,000 Sunday to beat teammate Jan Blokhuijsen into second place. Dennis Yuskov of Russia was third.

Verweij and Blokhuijsen both won Olympic gold medals in the team pursuit. Wust won two golds and three silvers in Sochi.
