of 14 shipwrecks lying in the Dardanelles Strait
They give a glimpse into the fierce battles in World War I
between the Ottoman and Allied forces
Savas Karakas says he was able to reconnect with his grandfather
who fought in the Gallipoli campaign of 1915
DIVER AND PHOTOGRAPHER, SAVAS KARAKAS, SAYING:
"Well, the feeling is connection with my grandfather. My grandfather's hand was disfigured. He was wounded in action. His hand was burned. I was always scared of his hand when I was a small child but when I come to Gallipoli and when I dive, the rust metal and the steel reminds me of my grandfather's hand and I hold his hand under the water."
