WWII veteran receives Legion of Honor during ceremony in New Albany

Feb. 15—TUPELO — A local World War II veteran was presented with the nation of France's highest merit on Thursday.

Consul General of France in Atlanta Anne-Laure Desjonqueres presented John D. Roberts with the Legion of Honor during a ceremony at the Magnolia Civic Center in New Albany on Thursday. The award, designated by French Republic Emmanuel Macron, is bestowed upon French citizens and foreign nationals who have served France or the ideals it upholds. These include American soldiers who risked their lives during World War II fighting on French soil.
