Wyckoff man, 30, struck and killed by car in Fair Lawn; second victim injured

A 30-year-old Wyckoff man was struck and killed by a car while crossing a street in Fair Lawn on Sunday night, and another man was struck and injured, police said.

Matthew Ritter and a 61-year-old Wyckoff man were trying to cross Maple Avenue from the Knights of Columbus building toward Cedar Street when they were hit by a 2010 Lincoln driven by an 81-year-old man from Hawthorne, Fair Lawn police said.

Officers responded to the scene at Maple Avenue and Cedar Street at 7:32 p.m.

Both victims were immediately taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson. Ritter was later pronounced dead.

No summonses have been issued in the crash, Fair Lawn police said.

Maple Avenue, which was closed for several hours during the investigation, was reopened later that night.

The Fair Lawn police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
