Wyomissing School Board announces dedication of stadium as 'Bob Wolfrum Field'

Apr. 24—Bob Wolfrum has made a lasting contribution at Wyomissing as a coach and teacher.

On Monday, the Wyomissing School Board recognized his impact by announcing that it has dedicated the district's stadium as "Bob Wolfrum Field."

Wolfrum is most known for his highly successful tenure as the high school's football coach.

He has been on the football staff for 50 years, including the last 36 seasons as head coach. He has led the Spartans to a 350-87-1 record, the PIAA Class 2A title in 2012, 11 District 3 championships — including the last four in Class 3A — and 19 league championships. His 350 victories are the most in Berks and District 3 history.

"Coach Wolfrum has created a legacy of sustained excellence for our football program that has benefited thousands of student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and Spartan community members throughout the years," said Kathy Harenza, President of the Wyomissing School Board, in a statement. "This legacy will continue to inspire and benefit future generations. It is only befitting that this field, which is symbolic of the rich traditions and football history of Wyomissing Area School District, will carry Bob Wolfrum's name."

The Spartans have gone 147-26-1 under Wolfrum at home at the A-Field, including 18-0 in the postseason.

A dedication event will be held following Wyomissing's football game on Oct. 14. Additional details will follow. Updates related to the event will be posted on the district website at https://www.wyoarea.org/departments/athletics/athletic_recognition/bob_wolfrum_field.

Wolfrum also put in 33 years of service to the school district as a teacher and Dean of Students. In addition, he has served as the Spartans baseball coach.

"Coach Wolfrum has provided 50 years of excellent teaching — both on the football field and in the classroom — to help students learn, reach goals and achieve with teammates," said Wyomissing Superintendent Robert Scoboria in the statement. "His impact at Wyomissing Area is much greater than the wins and championships, it can be measured by the hundreds of Spartans that have taken his valuable lessons and applied them for success at work, with family and in the community. These lessons resonate and serve well beyond the final whistle or graduation day. Thank you Coach Wolfrum!"

Wyomissing athletic director Frank Ferrandino, who played under Wolfrum, also is an assistant football coach for the Spartans.

"The Wyomissing Area Athletic Department would like to congratulate and thank Coach Bob Wolfrum for his 50 years of service to our student-athletes," Ferrandino said in the statement. "We are in great debt to his leadership on and off the playing field. The stadium which will bear his name is a great reminder that success comes through hard work, dedication, and discipline. We congratulate him on this honor."
