The X Factor star Janet Devlin has revealed she was rushed to hospital following a health scare.

The singer competed on the eighth series of the reality show in 2011, eventually placing in fifth position, but revealed she was hospitalised after falling unconscious and injuring both her jaw and wrist.

“Just wanting to take a second to say a thank you to the lovely Drs, Nurses and NHS staff that looked after me today. Especially Tyrone - if you ever see this - you’re a legend!” she wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of her inside in the ward.

“I’ve been safely discharged now! To anyone who doesn’t know what happened - I collapsed on Wednesday night, on my own, in a hotel corridor. I don’t know how long I was unconscious for but I just went to work the next day as normal. But I woke up with a swollen jaw and a really painful wrist.

“I thought I had an abscess in my gum and slept funny on my wrist. I was wrong. I actually smashed my jaw on the floor and my wrist too. Luckily I’m fine.

"My bloods are normal. Nothing is broken. I’ll be getting a referral to look into the heart again. Oh and resting up! Thank you for all your lovely messages and thank you so much again to the NHS,” she added.

The X Factor aired its final episode in 2018, but will return to screens sooner rather than later after head judge Simon Cowell revealed that the show - albeit the American version - had been rebooted.

“I have a saying in life that's always go where you've got the best invitation – and NBC has offered us to make the show here. Which means we'll make the show here,” he said of the renewal.

“If I am being honest, there is more excitement to make it here [in the US] than in the UK.”
