X-Games gold medalist Danny Way to skate newly renovated Phipps Skate Park

The newly renovated Phipps Skate Park on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, will get quite the re-christening tonight when it is visited by X-Games gold medalist Danny Way.

Named "Thrasher" magazine's skater of the year two times, Way will put on a showcase on the resurfaced ramps and obstacles.

The renovations themselves came about courtesy of Safebound Moving & Storage owners Mike Greco and Felipe Carvalho, along with the company's HR manager Andrew Cain, who decided to check out the skate scene after having lunch at Howley's Diner across the street one day.

Being skaters and skate fans, they could see that the ramps were in need of some TLC and decided to take action.

After talking with West Palm Beach city officials they discovered that though repairs were slated to be done, nothing had been set up.

Stepping up even further, they worked with city officials and agreed to provide half of the materials and the labor to help resurface the ramps.

Not just a resurfacing, they also changed the color scheme from the scorching black to a more Florida-friendly, not hotter-than-the-sun blue.

Together they resurfaced approximately 90 percent of the park's ramps.

“Any way we can give back to the community, we want to do it,” said Andrew Cain, the HR manager for Safebound Moving & Storage. “A couple of our founders are skateboard fans and it’s important to us that this park is safe for the young skate fanatics.”
