Coralville is taking a swing at the indoor golf market.

X-Golf, a national indoor golf simulator franchise, is looking to expand and open a new location at the Iowa River Landing in the fall, complete with a full bar and food service.

Bryant Nicholson, an agent with Pinnacle Realty in Cedar Rapids and one of the owners of the Coralville X-Golf, told the Press-Citizen they plan to take control of the property at 211 E. Ninth Street on June 1. The goal is to open up the 8,000-square-foot indoor golf simulator at the end of October or early November.

X-Golf owners are seeking a 10-year lease agreement with two five-year options to renew, according to a Coralville City Council agenda packet. Alternative proposals for the leasing of suites located at 211 E. Ninth St. are due May 22 and a public hearing will be held the following day.

The Iowa River Landing location would be Nicholson’s second X-Golf facility. He’s got a hand in the X-Golf simulator expected to open this summer in Cedar Rapids.

X-Golf operates 125 locations — including facilities in the works — across the country, Nicholson said. That includes the X-Golf in West Des Moines which opened in February.

The indoor golf simulator uses a "combination of laser, light, impact and camera sensory technologies" that measures the movement of the golf club to the motion vector of the golf ball, according to X-Golf. The simulators track launch angles, club head and ball speed, spin rates, club impact and flight path to “98 percent accuracy." The facilities also come equipped with automatic ball-feeder and teeing systems, on-the course training in addition to video analysis.

X-Golf locations include a full bar with food, according to the golf business’ website.

Visitors can take golf lessons, or participate in national tournaments held throughout the year, Nicholson said.
