X-Men Apocalypse: Sophie Turner On Her ‘Insecure And Alienated’ Jean Grey

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ introduces a number of familiar heroes in new, younger forms, and chief among them is ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sophie Turner as telekinetic mutant Jean Grey.

Turner, will be trying to escape the shadow of Famke Janssen, who played the character in the original ‘X-Men’ trilogy before cameo appearances in ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘Days of Future Past’.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Turner said: “The difference between this and Famke’s Jean Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated – even from the other mutants – because she’s so powerful.

“So there’s a real vulnerability to her and it’s great to see how her and Scott (Tye Sheridan) find each other through that alienation. She’s a great role to play, she’s so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing.”

That Scott is Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, another of the old mutants returning in new forms, alongside Alexandra Shipp’s Storm and Kodi Smit-McPhee’s Nightcrawler.

Jean Grey, Cyclops and Nightcrawler will be helping established X-Men Professor X (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) take on Oscar Isaac’s God-like mutant villain Apocalypse.

Storm meanwhile, will be one of Apocalypse’s four horsemen, alongside Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Olivia Munn’s Psylocke and Ben Hardy’s Angel.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be released on 19 May.
