Xbox Game Pass free games for October 2023
Xbox has announced the free games for Game Pass for the first half of October.
As a reminder, there are multiple versions of Game Pass. There's one for PC and one for console, that each give you the ability to download hundreds of games, and an Ultimate tier that combines the two and adds a streaming options (Game Pass Core is a rebranded Games with Gold with a static list of free games).
Two of this month's games – Gotham Knights (cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S) and The Lamplighter's League (cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S) – were announced last month, while another – Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (cloud, Xbox Series X|S) – was announced for release on Game Pass a few days ago.

Looking ahead, Forza Motorsport (cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S) releases on October 10 and comes to Game Pass on day one. This is the first entry in Microsoft's main racing sim series in six years, serving as an entry point for people looking to get into its world of car customisation and technical driving.
Reviews have been solid, with Digital Spy's review praising the RPG elements, vehicle handling and ease of entry for newcomers.
From Space (cloud, console, PC) follows on October 12. It's a twin-stick shooter in which up to four players can fight off alien hordes using over-the-top weapons, with its Saturday morning cartoon vibes making it one for when you let the kids play online.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! (cloud, console, PC) comes to the service on October 17. This remake of the previously Japan-only Yakuza spin-off takes the action back to the 1800s samurai era as lead character Sakamoto Ryōma has to find his father's murderer and prove he's been framed.
The game hangs around the 80 mark on Metacritic, with reviewers praising the combination of the series' trademark loveable quirks with its historical setting.
Other Game Pass additions that dropped late last month include Capcom's beloved Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (cloud, console, PC), and 'The Lair of LeChuck' chapter of Sea of Thieves' Monkey Island collaboration.
