XC Recap: Bronson XC finishes runner-up at Lakeview, Quincy girls take 4th; Tekonsha runs at Homer

BATTLE CREEK, MI. — The Bronson Vikings and the Quincy Orioles traveled to Riverside Elementary School in Battle Creek on Saturday to compete in the Lakeview Cross Country Invitational.Both the Bronson boys and girls teams finished in second place in their respective events, taking home some hardware with runner-up honors.In the girls portion of the race it was Bronson finishing in second place with a score of 61 points. The team from Jackson Lumen Christi took home top honors, winning with a score of just 19 points after sweeping the top three spots in the race. Parchment finished in third place followed by Quincy in fourth, with a score of 85 points.Leading the way for Bronson was sophomore Ava Hathaway who finished in fifth place overall with a time of 21 minutes, 2.55 seconds. Also earning finishes inside the top 30 were Ashlynn Harris in tenth place with a time of 22 minutes, 12.07 seconds; Aubrey Mace in eighteenth place with a time of 24 minutes, 22.75 seconds; Lydia Wells in twentieth place with a time of 25 minutes, 1.69 seconds; and Abbi Ferry in twenty-fifth place in a time of 26 minutes, 48.09 seconds.Rounding out the Bronson effort was Kiera Kiser in thirty-fifth place and Mackenzie Webster in forty-first place.The Quincy effort was paced by sophomore Charlotte Crabbs who finished in thirteenth place overall with a time of 22 minutes, 50.52 seconds. All five runners for Quincy finished in the top 30 for their solid fourth place team finish. Rounding out the Quincy effort was Sadie Miller in nineteenth place with a time of 24 minutes, 29.48 seconds; Libby Butchart in twenty-fourth place in a time of 26 minutes, 41.18 seconds; Kaylyn Brenner in twenty-eighth place in a time of 27 minutes, 48.89 seconds; and Elizabeth Craig in thirtieth place in a time of 28 minutes, 3.44 seconds.In the boys race it was Bronson taking runner-up honors with a score of 71 points. Three Rivers took home first place honors with a score of 56 points. Quincy was not able to field a full boys team but did see some individual success on the day.Bronson’s runner-up effort was bolstered by two top 10 finishes and all five scoring runners finishing in the top 30. Leading the way for Bronson was senior Aden Hathaway who finished in sixth place overall in a time of 17 minutes, 39.09 seconds, followed closely by teammate Ashton Wells who finished in eighth place in a time of 17 minutes, 49.39 seconds.Rounding out the Bronson scoring was Perry Lake in nineteenth place in a time of 19 minutes, 12.03 seconds; Tyler Wilber in twentieth place in a time of 19 minutes, 15.41 seconds; and Tanner Norton in twenty-third place in a time of 19 minutes, 46.11 seconds. While not earning points for his team Nicholas Cranson did finish in the top 30 at the event, taking twenty-seventh place in a time of 20 minutes, 12.72 seconds while Hugo Barajas just missed a medal with a thirty-second place finish in a time of 20 minutes, 36.98 seconds.Quincy senior Rhett Reif earned the highest finish of any local runner, taking fourth place overall with a time of 17 minutes, 20.58 seconds. Rounding out the Orioles effort was Caden Troxtle in forty-seventh place and Nathan Richer in fiftieth place.Tekonsha XC runs at Homer InvitationalHOMER — The Tekonsha Indians Cross Country program traveled to Homer this past Friday to compete in XC action.In the girls race Tekonsha was paced by senior Marshall Academy student Dani VanLente who finished in sixth place overall with a time of 22 minutes, 26.51 seconds. Rounding out the Tekonsha effort was Carissa Shedd in twenty-fifth place in a time of 27 minutes, 13.24 seconds and Leah Newbre in forty-eighth place in a time of 34 minutes, 7.25 seconds.In the boys race Tekonsha’s lone runner, Bo VeenKant, finished in fifty-fifth place in a time of 22 minutes, 55 seconds.
