Netflix's episodic version of young adult novel "13 Reasons Why" is installing new face Katherine Langford alongside Dylan Minnette of "Goosebumps" and "Scandal" as its two leads.
Langford, a newcomer from Perth, Australia, was most recently seen in May 2016 Cannes debut short "Daughters," and plays recently deceased high schooler Hannah, who has prepared a series of messages for 13 classmates to be distributed after her death, explaining how each recipient played a role in her tragic passing.
Minnette's Clay is not the first person to receive the box of tape-recorded messages, but it is he who offers a view into Hannah's world in Jay Asher's 2007 novel "Thirteen Reasons Why."
With Minnette and Langford in the crucial lead roles, "13 Reasons Why" also calls upon a similar mixture of known names and more recent newcomers, including Miles Heizer ("Parenthood" seasons 1 to 6), Alisha Boe ("Paranormal Activity 4," "Ray Donovan") and Justin Prentice ("Awkward" seasons 4 and 5, "Malibu County"), Deadline reports.
Filming begins this week; Selena Gomez is attached as an executive producer.
